From Scratch, By Faith
I’m going to be real with you… I rarely know what I’m doing—at first, anyway. But I am really good at dreaming things up. New ideas, new projects, new directions… they tend to find me faster than I can keep up with them. And somehow, I’m almost always convinced that if I just give it a little time, I can figure anything out.
Like when I’m driving on a sunny day, music low, mind wandering… and suddenly I’m designing my dream house in my head. Floor plan, finishes, the whole thing. Thirty seconds later, I’ve fully convinced myself I could build it—start to finish, no problem.
And then I pause and think, am I crazy? Do you ever do that too? Please tell me I’m not the only one.
Maybe it’s initiative. Or delusion. Or even a little bit of both. What I do know is this: I wasn’t created to let the fear of failure keep me from learning something new. So, by the grace of God, here we are—starting something new, from scratch.
So hi, I’m Makayla.
I wear a lot of hats, but my favorite ones are wife, mama, and follower of Christ. Around here, you’ll find a little bit of everything—faith woven into everyday life, lessons learned the hard way (and sometimes the funny way), and a whole lot of starting before feeling ready.
This space is for the ones who are figuring it out as they go. The ones who feel called to create, to grow, to try—even when they’re not quite sure how it’ll all turn out. The ones who know that God doesn’t require perfection, just obedience and a willing heart.
And speaking of starting from scratch… soon you’ll meet my friend, Beatrice. She’s my sourdough starter, and she might just be the most honest reflection of this whole journey. A little messy, a little unpredictable, but growing—slowly, steadily, and with a whole lot of care.
There’s something sacred about making things from scratch. Bread, a home, a life rooted in faith—it all takes time, patience, and trust in the process. Especially when you can’t yet see the full picture.
So whether you’re here for sourdough, encouragement, or just to feel a little less alone in the middle of your own “figuring it out” season… I’m really glad you’re here.
Pull up a seat. There’s room at the table.
